ABOUT

Oh Hazar

No light without darkness, no life without death and no sound without silence. Magic happens where contrasts meet, lines converge and borders cross. It’s there where Oh Hazar resides. The name is derived from Au Hasard, a track by Belgian experimental band Dans Dans. It means ‘random’; hard to pinpoint, chaotic at first sight and fascinating in its obscurity. Just like Oh Hazar, a band soaked up with influences from music, cinema and art. From German expressionism and The White Stripes till film noir and St. Vincent. Outspoken on one hand, completely abstract on the other. Alienating, confusing and puzzling. Exactly that is what Oh Hazar causes.

DEBUT EP
Clair Obscur is the title of Oh Hazar’s debut EP. Constructed in the Epic Rainbow Unicorn Studio with producer Simon Akkermans (My Baby, New Cool Collective, Pip Blom) and his unorthodox approach Clair Obscur is an addicting trip through alternative art pop, indie rock and postpunk. The title is a reference to the Italian painting technique where one object is fully illuminated and everything else is shrouded in darkness. Painters like Caravaggio and Rembrandt mastered this technique on canvas, Oh Hazar carries it out in music. Full focus on the atmosphere, with room for interpretation. No greys and concessions, but stark contrasts.

LIVE
On stage, Oh Hazar is a force to be reckoned with. A band that inspires and consoles its audience with electrifying music that sticks. The members, all from Nijmegen in The Netherlands, have been playing live for years both abroad and domestically in various bands. With Oh Hazar, they tease the audience with a show full of subtle humour and uneasy questions. Full of tension, never boring, played with the heart and the head. Chaotic at first sight, well balanced and adventurous at second. Without a safety net, always on edge. Because that’s where things get interesting.
